What is a “Bongkok Udang” Jambul?

Old timer bird hobbyists have talked about this kind of bird but what do they mean by this and what is so special about this kind of bird?

What is special – this kind of bird tends to be louder in voice and keke. It also has the tendency to sing more notes and have a longer keke.

Basically, we have to know and understand certain basic anatomy of the bird and from this knowledge, make a calculated guess on the potential of the bird versus what is being discussed about the bird being louder and longer in song and keke.

On the right is a diagram of a bird’s air sacs. Air sacs enable the bird to breathe in and out, they also function to enable the bird to sing.

Here are links to understanding how air-sacs power the lungs of the bird and in turn enable air to flow in and out of the bird, passing through its vocal mechanism.

In summary, the larger the muscles and air-sacs of the bird, the more potential the bird has, in terms being able to keke louder and longer. This is also true for the bird to sing louder and longer songs.
